La Maison de la francophonie in Saskatchewan: A Collective Vision Taking Shape

2025-06-05

La Maison de la francophonie in Saskatchewan is reaching an important milestone in its development! Thanks to financial support from the Government of Canada, we have enthusiastically launched a new phase of the project: the development of a comprehensive business plan. This plan will allow us to lay the foundation for a strong governance structure, aligned with the concrete needs of our community, and to map out the next steps toward the construction of this unifying, sustainable, and inspiring space.

Throughout the month of May, we had the privilege of holding several consultation meetings with a wide range of Francophone groups. These rich and dynamic discussions helped us better understand the aspirations and needs of our Fransaskois community. Conversations focused on several key components essential to the future of La Maison de la francophonie, including:

  • Permanent and temporary exhibition halls to showcase our artists and cultural heritage;
  • Art galleries, music and dance studios, and spaces dedicated to artistic and recreational activities;
  • Spaces dedicated to reception services, immigration support, youth activities, and early childhood (daycare and related services);
  • As well as commercial spaces, business incubators, and coworking areas to stimulate Francophone economic vitality.

In parallel with these community consultations, we are also making progress on the real estate front. We are in the process of acquiring an existing building that we will be able to adapt and modernize to adequately meet the identified needs. This strategic decision will allow us to combine vision, efficiency, and sustainability.

We are actively collaborating with the architecture and design firm 1080 Architecture, and we recently held another working session to further refine a coherent, functional design inspired by the priorities we’ve heard.

La Maison de la francophonie will be much more than just a building — it will be a living reflection of a strong, inclusive, dynamic Francophonie, firmly oriented toward the future. We sincerely thank everyone who is participating in this journey and who, through their engagement, is helping build a strong Francophone future.

Stay tuned — more exciting steps are coming soon!
